The company’s beginnings
Global Stores, a.s. was established on 20/10/1998 as a subsidiary of UNIMEX GROUP, a.s. It commenced its commercial activities on 27/11/1998.
UNIMEX GROUP, a.s.. became the first franchise partner for OBI in the Czech Republic.
The owner of the OBI buildings is UNIMEX GROUP, a.s.; the operator is Global Stores, a.s.
Company history and present
The company focuses solely on operating the franchised OBI markets in accordance with the rights and obligations regulated by the franchise contract.
The Global Stores a.s. markets have from the start concentrated both on their customers who, in the DIY spirit, are working on their own housing or recreational properties, and also on smaller companies and entrepreneurs. The service-provision strategy is also subject to this focus and takes account of the overall prevailing economic situation. Our customers are provided with an individual service as a rule, and this together with the price and quality of the products offered is decisive in the very competitive environment.
Opening the first market – České Budějovice
The construction of the market in České Budějovice was commenced in June 1998 and only 6 months later (28/11/1998) sales and the provision of related services began. We can safely say that the OBI brand is ranked No.1 in its field in South Bohemia.
Opening the second market - Zlín
Construction was commenced in May 1999 and the second franchise OBI market was opened on 3/12/1999 with a sales area of 9,000m², of which 2,000m² is a garden centre. In comparison with the OBI markets in North Moravia it is doing very well.
Opening the third market - Brno
We commenced construction on 15/11/1999 and in spite of the difficult winter conditions the market was completed to schedule on 30/6/2000. The first Brno OBI market was opened on 11/8/2000. The market, with a total sales area of 9,825m², of which 6,600m² is purely sales space, 1,285m² a roofed and open garden and 1,940m² a heated garden, is one of the largest supermarkets in Brno.
Opening the fourth market – Prague - Roztyly
The market was opened on 11/5/2001. Its sales area again exceeds 9,000m².
Opening the fifth market – Hodonín
The market was opened to the public on 3/12/2004. It is located only some hundreds of metres from the town centre and, with its sales area of 8,000m², it is the largest DIY market in the region.
Opening the sixth market - Pardubice
The market was opened to public on 2/12/2005. It is located a few meters from railway and bus station and, with its sales area of 9,000 m², belongs to standard OBI markets. |
